CPU Benchmarks & Value
Posted: 4/30/2023
This post shows benchmarks and value to performance information for the current CPU offerings. Below is a graph of PassMark benchmarks for each of the CPUs currently offered.
The processors are organized by what model of computer they are available in. Intel 10/11 CPUs are available in the Intel Previous Generation platform, Intel 12/13 CPUs are available in the Intel Current Generation platform, AMD 3/4/5 CPUs are available in the AMD Previous Generation platform, and AMD 7 CPUs are available in the AMD Current Generation platform. Each generation shows a decent improvement over the previous, but this isn’t the entire picture of what CPU to choose. As stated in the “Desktop Configuration Information” post, some don’t include a CPU COOLER, and some don’t have an iGPU. When looking for what CPU to decide upon, you must also keep those factors in mind. Below is another graph of the value-to-performance ratio for each of these CPUs. They are sorted by best value to least value.
As you can see, the best value CPU is the Ryzen 5 4500. However, that CPU doesn’t include an iGPU, so you must also add a GPU. This makes it great for gaming desktops but not for home & office or professional desktop configurations. The Ryzen 5 4500 is used as the base model in our pre-configured gaming desktops, but for our home & office computers, we chose to use the Ryzen 5 4600G / Ryzen 7 5700G. Those are also great value but include iGPUs allowing you not to need a dedicated GPU. Remember, when deciding what CPU to use, keep in mind both the price to performance and the actual performance of the CPU and how much performance you may need for your daily tasks.
