Desktop Configuration Information

Posted: 4/30/2023

This post will go over the different models of desktops we offer, the various configuration options, and what they mean. We currently offer home & office desktops, professional desktops, and gaming desktops. Our possibilities for configuration include CPU, CPU COOLER, MOTHERBOARD / WIFI, GPU, RAM, SSD, HDD, PSU, OS, CASE, and FANS.

The first model to look at is the home & office desktop. This desktop is perfect for standard home and office uses and can be customized entirely. In comparison, the professional desktop can be customized with higher-end CPU options, water cooling, higher-end GPUs, higher capacity and faster RAM, higher-end SSDs, a second SSD and HDD, and even a higher capacity PSU.

The CPU is the main component of your computer; having a fast enough CPU is crucial for your computer to feel fast when using it. CPUs are also important for gaming; if your CPU is too slow, you may bottleneck your GPU and limit your gaming performance. Some crucial options when determining CPUs are that some do not include an integrated GPU (iGPU) and the cooler used. Most CPUs come with a standard cooler, but some do not. A potential cause of an incompatibility error when changing CPUs can be you need to add a different CPU COOLER. The easiest way to tell is that Intel CPUs with a “K” in the name do not come with a CPU COOLER standard, and Ryzen CPUs that are more expensive typically do not as well. Another potential incompatibility is if you do not have GPU selected and the CPU does not have an iGPU. This can be a problem in the home & office or professional desktops, as they do not come standard with a GPU. Intel CPUs with an “F” in the name do not come with an iGPU, and Ryzen CPUs in total do not have an iGPU unless they specifically have “G” in the title. For more performance information, please read the article “CPU Benchmarks & Value.”

The CPU COOLER is what keeps your CPU cool. This comes standard with a stock cooler that is perfect for most tasks. You also have the option to upgrade to a higher-end air cooler and even water-cooling options.

In home & office desktops and professional desktops, you do not have the option to upgrade the motherboard. However, you can add WIFI if it is not standard, such as in the home & office desktops. In gaming desktops, there are multiple different motherboard options depending on which one you like.

The GPU is the graphics card of your desktop. Having a fast GPU in cases of professional work and, most importantly, gaming can be extremely useful. For more performance information, please read the article “GPU Benchmarks & Value.”

RAM is the memory of the computer. Our RAM options will work great; however, we recommend a minimum of 16GB of RAM for your system. 32GB is also a great option to upgrade even further. Our professional desktops can be configured with up to 128GB of RAM, the same as our gaming desktops. Our gaming desktops can also have RGB RAM, which can be controlled through the software on your desktop. If you receive an incompatibility when upgrading to 128GB of RAM in the gaming desktop, try upgrading the motherboard, as some base model motherboards only have two DIMM slots.

The SSD is the primary storage for your desktop. We only use M.2 NVME SSDs as the base for our system to give you the best experience. We usually recommend a minimum of a 500GB SSD for most use cases while being upgradeable to an 8TB SSD in our configurator. Professional and gaming desktops can be configured with up to two SSDs. If you receive an incompatibility when adding a second SSD in the gaming desktop, upgrade the motherboard, as some base model motherboards only have one M.2 slot.

An HDD is a perfect addition for bulk storage. They are available in all of our desktops; you can even add two HDDs to our professional and gaming desktops. You can choose anywhere from 1TB to 8TB of storage.

The PSU is what draws the power into your computer. You need to ensure that your PSU can handle the hardware you have selected in your configuration thus far. If you need help with this step, please contact us on the sales support page.

The operating system (OS) is the standard software your desktop runs. Windows 11 Home is the standard option now while upgrading to Windows 11 Professional is possible. Professional is recommended for anyone ordering a professional desktop.

The case is upgradable only on our gaming desktops. Standard case is the Phanteks P400A, and we can upgrade to the Lian-Li PC O11 EVO. Pictures of the upgraded case are available on the product page.

The last option available is to add more fans. More fans will help keep your computer cooler and allow you to gain more performance if overclocking or thermal throttling.
